AEJMC Convention

On August 6, 2008, Residents' Journal's Editor-in-Chief, Mary C. Johns attended the Association for Education on Journalism and Mass Communications Convention and spoke as a guest on a panel entitled "Beyond Geographic Community: Culturally Defined Community Newspapers in the Chicago Area."
On the panel, Mary, other journalists and journalism educators spoke about the differences and similarities between community newspapers serving geographic communities and those serving communities of interest, ethnicity, religion, etc.; the strengths of community newspapers, including characteristics of those that are thriving compared to newspapers that are struggling; the future of community newspapers; community newspapers and the Web; and about what journalism educators need to know and share with their students.
