Residents' Journal TV In addition to publishing Residents' Journal, We The People Media broadcast its television program
and made stories available through our web site. The new season of "Residents' Journal TV," a live,
call-in show on the CAN TV network, included interviews and discussions on a wide variety of topic
s relevant to We The People Media's target audience. In one episode, Beauty Turner hosted a guest
Wallace "Gator" Bradley, a former gang member and current community activist. Bradley commented
on the high incidence of police brutality in the city, and fielded a large number of phone calls
from viewers. Due to overwhelming response to this segment, this interview then led to a series
of shows that Beauty continued to host, involving police commanders, neighborhood activists and
crime victims. Ethan hosted shows which featured guests from the penultimate rank of state government as well as former participants in the Urban Youth International Journalism Program. In one episode, Ethan hosted Eric Hudson from Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn's office. Eric discussed the ongoing debate in state government and its impact on low-income communities. In another episode, Ethan's guest was Quintana Woodridge, a graduate of the first Urban Youth class from 1998 who is now a union carpenter. Quintana discussed her work as a community activist and underscored the need for young people to receive communications training to help them represent their communities. Editor-in-Chief Mary C. Johns hosted Jillian Spindle, the director of development at the Neighborhood Technology Resource Center, a non-profit organization which trains low-income community residents in high technology skills. In another episode, Mary hosted Frank Borgers, a member of the National Nurses Organizing Committee, who discussed the impact of the closures of health clinics operated by Cook County government. Borgers explained the scope of the service cuts and job losses for health care providers, focusing his comments on the consequences for South Siders. Urban Youth International Journalism Program instructor Kari Lydersen hosted another program in which her guest was Chantell Suggs, a current youth participant who discussed her recent articles on community issues.
